STATISTICS ABOUT BREAST CANCER 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. From 1999 to 2005 rates in the U.S. decreased by about 2% per year. The decrease was seen only in women aged 50 and older.

BREAST CANCER IN GENERAL Cancer has various kinds of cells, which it normally divides in an orderly way to produce more cells only when they are needed. Cancer is a group of diseases more than 100 types-that occur when cells become abnormal and divide without control or order.

BREAST CANCER IN WOMEN About 226,870 new cases of invasive breast cancer in women. There are about 39,150 deaths from breast cancer in woman. There is a 1/8 chance that women get invasive breast cancer The chance of dying from breast cancer is about 1 in 3 women

TYPES OF BREAST CANCER Paget's disease is a rare form of breast cancer that begins in the glands in or under the skin. Inflammatory breast cancer is a rare form of invasive breast cancer. Usually there is no lump or tumor; rather this cancer makes the skin of the breast look red and feel warm Triple negative breast cancers are those that do not have estrogen receptors and progesterone receptors, occur more often in younger women and in African-American women.

WHAT IS BEING DONE ABOUT BREAST CANCER SStudies continue to uncover lifestyle factors and habits that alter breast cancer risk. OOngoing studies are looking at the effect of exercise, weight gain or loss, and diet on breast cancer risk. TThe Sister Study, it has enrolled 50,000 women who have sisters with breast cancer.

BREAST CANCER TYPES The most common type begins in the lining of the ducts and is called ductal carcinoma. Another common type, called lobular carcinoma, occurs in the lobules (milk-producing glands).

BREAST CANCER IS BEING HELD IN NADUR October is known as the global month for Breast Cancer Awareness Breast Care Support Group Europa Donna Malta are to deliver a presentation about breast cancer awareness among women and girls. This event is taking place at the Joe Tabone Hall, Nadur Local Council Office, next Friday, the 26th of October 2012 at 6.00pm.
