For the following exercise, take note of these constants: Server Name: hospital Database name: hospital_nt Backup Database Name: hospital.db

Installation Insert the SQL Anywhere 7 CD. Double click on the Setup icon.

Installation Click Next to continue with the Setup program.

Installation Click Yes to indicate acceptance of License Agreement

Installation Enter the Serial Number then click the Next button.

Installation Click Next a couple of times to go the license form.

Installation Enter a Name, make licensed Seats 50, select Concurrent Seat model, then click OK.

Installation Select all the components to be installed. Adaptive Server Anywhere for Windows SQL Remote for ASA Help files Click Next.

Installation Wait while the installer copies the necessary files .

Installation Click the Finish button.

Installation Click Finish button to restart your computer.

Go to windows program menu and go to Sybase SQL Anywhere, Sybase Central. Go to Plug-ins (under Tools) to activate the available Plug-ins.

Select the Adaptive Server Anywhere 7 plug-in and click “Load”, then “Close”.

In the Database Tab, enter hospital as the database name and the corresponding location then click OK. v v

When the hospital appears at the Sybase central interface, it is already connected.

Add a new service. This will invoke the Hospital database server and will be active for the entire windows nt/2000/xp server session.

Click Next to proceed to service configuration.

Select the desired service (Network Database Server) then click Next.

Name the new service as hospital and make it automatic to make it auto-start at the start of windows session. Click Next.

Just click Next when asked for the path of the executable. Just leave the default value as is.

Enter all the parameters: -x tcpip = protocol to be used is TCPIP -c 20M is cache size -n hospital-asa is the database servername D:\backup\hospital.db is the filename -n hospital is the database name. Click Next.

Click Next to retain default values

Click Next again to retain default values.

Click Finish to accept all the displayed values

The hospital service will now appear under the service menu. To enable it, just right click on it and select start. This will now be accessible throughout the network. A green light beside service name (hospital) indicates that it is on. For the Client workstations, connect using the following parameters User: dba Password: hospital. The hospital database should then be visible in the Sybase central interface.
