2 Phylum- Chordate Chordate is a group of animals that include vertebrates and a few invertebrates All animals in the chordate have… –Hollow dorsal nerve cord –pharyngeal slits, follow link for more infopharyngeal slits –An endostyle –Post-anal tail Beginning dorsal nerve cord

3 Class-Mammalia Mammals have… –Sweat glands –Hair –Mothers feed milk to young –Three middle ear bones –A neocortex part of the brain –Four chambered heart Live from Alaska to northern Mexico and Atlantic to Pacific. On all fours it is about 3 ft tall and 7ft on its hind legs. Females can weigh 400lbs and males can be 600lbs

4 Order-Carnivora They eat meat Most diverse order of all the mammal orders Some animals in the order will eat plants as well making them omnivores

5 Family- Ursidae Ursidae really means bear. Found in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia.

6 Genus-Ursus Includes polar, brown, and black bears Ursus means bear in Latin Found in the areas in the picture

7 Species-American Black Bear
