2 How to Create High Academic Standards and Strategies to Accomplish it: Willmar Workshop Provide a student study guide Expand service learning projects Teach students how to use books for open book examinations Don’t just talk about how to accomplish something, but demonstrate it and use different modalities

3 How to Create High Academic Standards and Strategies to Accomplish it: Willmar Workshop Be clear to verbalize expectations and assumptions and put them in writing Individualize academic goals so they are achievable by students Develop reward systems for small accomplishments that lead to achieving academically Allow students to achieve at their own pace Use media in different modalities for instruction

4 How to Create High Academic Standards and Strategies to Accomplish it: Willmar Workshop Have high academic expectations and teach organizational and study strategies to get there Provide students a check list so they can monitor their own progress Provide a weekly communications on progress to students and parents Make sure that academic lessons are relevant and challanging

5 How to Create High Academic Standards and Strategies to Accomplish it: Willmar Workshop Acknowledge student accomplishmetns along the way Reward students progress and achievment in a variety of different ways Post expectations in the class room Allow students to re-do their work until they get it right Make sure that kids have had breakfast before you start teaching them
