Accreditation in the U.S.A. As with most things in the U.S., procedures and regulations for professional licensure and university program regulation vary from state to state. Program accreditation procedures also vary somewhat, although these are generally more consistent, handled by national professional organizations (i.e. APA, NASP and CACREP). Procedures also vary from country to country, in my experience.

11/16/20158 Site visits The APA team visits with the administrators of the host institution, program administrators, department chairs, faculty and students. (YES) The APA team asks questions and provides information. (YES) Within 30 days of the visit, the team compiles a report addressing the program´s consistency with accreditation guidelines and summarizing the questions asked and evaluation/recommendations. (YES)

Site Visits A copy of the report is made available to the program, and the program may respond, correct errors of fact or counter anything with which they do not concur (YES) Based on the report and the response, CoA will grant or deny accreditation. (YES)

11/16/201510 Maintaining Accreditation Once accredited, programs must file an annual report, pay an annual fee and undergo periodic extensive reviews (every 3 to 7 years, depending on program´s level of development). (YES, except fee—they are actually rewarded for their rank) Based on the annual reports and the periodic visits, accreditation will be maintained, designated as probationary or revoked. (YES) Programs on probationary status will undergo site visits every 1 to 2 years (Every 1 to 3 years)
