7 7 HAIR USED IN WIGS u HUMAN HAIR u Match test u Burns has a strong odor u Clean every 2 to 4 weeks u Liquid dry shampoo is used u Toxic, Flammable u Evaporates as it dries u Condition with a leave in conditioner u Use cool dryer u SYNTHETIC- MODACRYLIC u Match test u Melts slowly leaves a small ball at the end of the strand u Clean every 3 months u Non- absorbent ( lack porosity) will not attract dirt u Shampoo with mild shampoo and conditioner u Use cool dryer

8 8 CONSTRUCTION OF WIGS u THE WAY WIGS ARE PUT TOGETHER u CAP WIG u Cotton, synthetic, elastic u 1st type of wig made of all cotton u fitted like a swim cap u hot, tight, uncomfortable u CAPLESS WIG u Wefts of material sewn to strips of elastic u Stretch wig- cooler, lighter, natural looking more comfortable, easier to style

9 9 HAIR PLACEMENT INTO WIGS u HAND TIED u Strands of hair tied to wefts, then hand tied to the elastic u More expensive u Must take extra care of cap u MACHINE MADE u Sew the strips on the elastic in a circular method u Hard to style the top, but more durable u COMBINATION u Uses both methods to construct the wig
