2.4GHz & 802.11g Andy Gowans Private Business Systems Unit UK Radiocommunications Agency

ETSI/IEEE EN 300 328 v1.4.1 –going through one step approval process –UK close date 21/02/03 –NSO close date 21/03/03 IEEE 802.11 TGg – Still Going through comment resolution –Vendor Specific Products on the market now

EN 300 328 v 1.4.1 changed to include definition of Wideband modulation wide band modulation: wide band modulation is considered to include FHSS or DSSS modulation as well as other forms of modulation that meet the emission requirements as defined in the present document. Changes to EN

DSSS and other forms of modulation For the purposes of the present document, other forms of modulation which do not satisfy the constraints of the specification given in clause 4.2.1, shall be considered equivalent to DSSS modulation. Systems using these other forms of modulation shall be considered equivalent to DSSS systems and shall be tested according to the requirements for DSSS modulation. Changes to EN

IR 2005: Wideband Transmission Systems Operating in the 2.4 GHz ISM Band and Using Spread Spectrum Modulation Techniques Allows both mobile & fixed use UK Interface requirement

Modulation Frequency hopping, direct sequence or other forms of spread spectrum modulation Effective Radiated Power -10 dBW (100 mW) Power Density Frequency hopping -10 dBW (100 mW) per 100 kHz Other forms of spread spectrum modulation -20 dBW (10 mW) per 1 MHz Current UK Interface requirement

Q.Does 802.11g or other OFDM RLANs meet the requirements of IR2005? A.Yes as long as they meet the emission requirements as defined in the present document for DSSS modulation. ACTION on RA to change wording in IR 2005 to reflect changes for clarification. Conclusions
