Unit 1 – Improving Productivity

1.1Why did you use a computer? What other systems / resources could you have used? I used a computer because it was easier to access the information through hyperlinks and other sources that are only available online. If we wasn’t using a computer other options would have been to use resources offline, such as books, however the problem with using books is that the information cannot be constantly updated whereas information found online is more recent. Other reasons that I used a computer include the fact that it has: Clip art, in put sound, google image search, and microsoft word- plan. I could have used something like a flip board however it is not ideal but more economical.

1.2What skills did you need to learn in order to use PowerPoint? To use PowerPoint I had to have an understanding of how to insert different sounds, pictures or videos. I needed this to make my PowerPoint interesting and appropriate. I also needed to know how to edit the timings so my PowerPoint would move through on its own at a reasonable time. While making the presentation I needed to know how to edit my PowerPoint, such as changing texts and fonts, inserting clip arts and hyper links. I also needed to use transitions and animations to make my PowerPoint more intriguing for the target audience. One of the most important skills was needed to learn was to be able to add working buttons.

1.2What resources did you need to make the presentation successful? I used different types of resources such as PowerPoint because it made animation easier and it looked more professional, using PowerPoint also included things such as spell check to assure correct work. I also used paper to write out a well thought out and high standard plan, this allowed me to make corrections and changes now as well as use my time more wisely when making the PowerPoint. Another resource that I used was the internet itself, this offered recent information that was correct and updated. Using the internet furthermore includes clip art, animations and other options to collect images from.

1.4What factors might have affected how well you completed the presentation? (e.g. time / attendance / knowledge of software) The different factors that could have affected how the presentation turned out would have involved many different variables. One of the main ones being how much knowledge I had the soft wear I chose to use (PowerPoint), this would have effected how well it was completed because if I didn’t know how to use the soft wear I would not have been able to produce a high quality presentation. Another factor that would effect how well it ended up was how much research and planning I did before hand. This would effect how much detail was in my work. Another main point that has effected how well my presentation ended was my attendance. How much time I spent in lesson and how much of that time was spent on my actual PowerPoint.

1.6Why did you use PowerPoint to make your presentation? What other software was available? Why did you choose not to use them? One of the main reasons that I chose to use PowerPoint was that is ideal as well as convenient. It is ideal because it offers suitable themes that are both smart and professional, PowerPoint gives many choices if format and has most of the resources built in (e.g.. Insert, design, transitions, animations) so it speeded up the process of work time. PowerPoint is also interesting and would be more suitable and appropriate for the target audience. I could have used Microsoft Word or Publisher however I chose not to because it wouldn’t have been as appropriate for the target audience.

2.2Which tools within PowerPoint made it appropriate for your presentation? Within PowerPoint there is many tools that helped my create my presentation in an appropriate and professional manor. One of these things was spell check. This tool practically helped with my presentation because my spelling is considerably bad meaning spell check both saved time as well as immediately corrected my mistakes. Another tool was the hyperlink insert. This helped me to create working buttons, making my presentation more efficient and specialised.

1.7Were there any legal constraints or local constraints that changed the way you created your presentation? (e.g. copyright, file sizes) There was no issues that made me change my presentation, everything was legally used and purchased correctly. Regarding copyright, I had no issues as I credited the places where I collected my images from and did not claim any of them to be my own. All the work I handed in was my own work, and nothing was plagiarized making it completely legal.

2.4What improvements do you think you could do to your presentation? Improvements that I could have made include: More time More buttons Animations Better quality images Self taken photos As I whole I was very pleased with how the presentation turned out, it went as planned and turned out professional and suitable.

3.2What improvements do you think you could have done to improve your work rate? To increase my work rate, I could have handled my distractions better. By managing them I could have completed my presented quicker and more effectively. I also could have chosen to work in a more isolated environment meaning there would be a lot less distractions anyway, the quite environment could have also improved my concentration. Another thing I could have done was learnt how to use other resources because this would have quickened my work speed and also could have made my presentation better. One final thing I could have done was to use my spare time to finish the PowerPoint quicker.
