14.Frogs 1
3
Frogs live in most parts of the world 2 You can find frogs in most ponds, lakes, and streams
4
Frogs move by jumping 3 The back legs of a frog are longer than its front legs
5
These long, strong legs help the frog jump 4 When a frog is scared, it often jumps back into the water
6
In the water frogs are very good swimmers 5 Their toes have webs of skin between them that help them swim
7
A frog has a long, sticky tongue that it uses to get food 6 Frogs eat insects
8
When a frog sees an insect, it shoots out its tongue and hits the insect with it 7 The insect sticks to the tongue then the frog pulls back its tongue and swallows its meal
9
Male frogs make a loud croaking sound to attract females 8 They fill their lungs with air and then force the air out to make its own special call
10
One of the biggest frogs in the world is the bullfrog 9 Bullfrogs can grow to be 8 inches long
11
They eat mainly insects but because they are so large, they can catch mice, bats, and even other frogs 10
12
Most frogs have thin, moist skin 11 Many frogs have a poison in their skin to protect them from being eaten by other animals
13
An animal that gets a taste of the poison usually drops the frog 12 Frogs are useful to people because of the huge number of insects they eat
14
Without frogs, insects could become pests in many places 13 Another way frogs are useful to people is that they provide a delicacy of food for the human to eat
