APRS Digipeating 101 Digipeating concept:
3
National Digi Infrastructure But sometimes they are down, or you need an ad-hoc network
4
All of these radios can digipeat! Anytime, anywhere Do we want them to? NO! Horendous QRM on channel Impossible to control Absentee operators Never read their messages! Do we want them to? YES! but only when we need it (under our user control)

APRS Digipeating 101 Digipeating Mechanisms: MYCALL – APRS VIA WB4APR… APRS,WB4APR*every TNC MYALIAS – APRS VIA RELAY… APRS,RELAY*every TNC ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UIDIGI - APRS VIA MOBILE… APRS,WB4APR-9*Call substitution ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UITRACE – APRS VIA WIDE3-3… APRS,WB4APR-9*,WIDE3-2Decrements N & trace UIFLOOD – APRS VIA MDC3-3… APRS,MDC3-2Decrements N UIFLOOD (ID enabled) APRS,DIGIL,MDC3-2Decrements N inserts call of last digi only UIFLOOD (FIRST kenwood ) APRS,DIGI1,MDC3-2Decrements N inserts call of first digi 1978 1980 1995 1998 NetRom, TheNet => Beacons/ Digipeating illegal

APRS Digipeating 102 How we use these capabilities for APRS: Universal path for fixed stations,VIA WIDE2-2 For Mobiles VIA WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 MYCALL – APRS VIA WB4APR-9,WIDE2-2… APRS,WB4APR-9*,WIDE2-2anytime MYALIAS – APRS VIA WIDE1-1,WIDE2-2…APRS,WIDE1-1*,WIDE2-2 untracable ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UIDIGI - APRS VIA WIDE1-1,WIDE2-2…APRS,WB4APR-9*,WIDE2-2dupes UITRACE – APRS VIA WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1…APRS,WB4APR-9*,WIDE1*,WIDE2-1 *** UIFLOOD – APRS VIA MDC3-3… APRS,MDC3-2local

APRS Digipeating 102 How we use these capabilities for APRS: Universal path for fixed stations,VIA WIDE2-2 For Mobiles VIA WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1
8
APRS Digipeating Why do we keep N to 2 or less? UITRACE – APRS VIA WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1…APRS,WB4APR-9*,WIDE1*,WIDE2-1 ***

APRS Digipeating Why do we keep N to 2 or less? UITRACE – APRS VIA WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1…APRS,WB4APR-9*,WIDE1*,WIDE2-1 ***
10
SSn-N digipeating Using the path of MD6-6 hits every digi in Maryland only 120 dupes vs 15 copies desired
11
APRS Digipeating Proportional Pathing! Every other packet is simplex direct. Every other is 1 hop. Every 4 th is 2 hops
12
APRS TEMPn-N Digipeating How to use for IMMEDIATE TEMPORARY USE?: EVERY MOBILE and or Emergency back up system should always support TEMPn-N digipeating MYCALL – APRS VIA WB4APR-9,WIDE2-2… APRS,WB4APR-9*,WIDE2-2anytime MYALIAS – APRS VIA WIDE1-1,WIDE2-2…APRS,WIDE1-1*,WIDE2-2 untracable ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UITRACE – APRS VIA TEMP1-1,WIDE2-1…APRS,WB4APR-9*,TEMP1*,WIDE2-1 *** UIFLOOD – APRS VIA TEMP7-7… APRS,TEMP7-6local

Annual Golden Packet Event Power is the issue
18
APRS HOPn-N Digipeating For the AT Golden Packet Event, we supported 2 paths: HOPn-N (non tracing): arrived as DIGIx,HOP7-1 TEMPn-N (Tracing): arrived as DIGI1,DIGI2,DIGI3,etc GOLDEN packets used HOP7-7,HOP7-7 to make it 15 stations end to end TEST packets used the minimum TEMPn-N to trace their neighbors. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UITRACE TEMP - The actual TNC command to set up TEMPn-N support UIFLOOD HOP – The actual TNC command to set up HOPn-N support
