3 Simile  Simile-using like or as to compare 2 things.  He is free as a bird.

4 Metaphor  Metaphor-comparing 2 things without using like or as; something is something else.  She has a heart of gold.

5 Hyperbole  Hyperbole-using exaggeration to make a point.  Her brain is the size of a pea.

6 Onomatopoeia Onomatopoeia-sound word. The door bell ding when I pushed it.

7 Alliteration  Alliteration-repetition of beginning sound.  The bumble bee buzz around town.

8 Personification  Personification-giving human qualities to something not human.  The rain kissed my cheeks as it fell.

9 Idiom  Idiom-a well known expression that does not mean what it says.  Baker’s dozen

10 Practice problems  1.Beating around the bush.  2. He got tons of money.  3. The bee buzz  4.He is fast as lighting.  5.Ideas are wings  6.The sun smiled at me as I walk bye.  7.The bee buzz around the busy town.
