Reading Workshop: Mini Lesson Independent Reading (Within Reach books) Guided Reading (small group, partners, book clubs) Read Aloud Fluency and Comprehension (Benchmark Assessment) Genres Nightly Reading Primary Focus- Individual Growth, Stamina **Research shows that for your child to simply maintain his/her reading level, he/she must read for at least two hours/day.

Homework How much can your child expect? We expect your child to read EVERY night. Daily Six Math Review every Thursday night. Other subjects will vary by our area of focus and each child’s individual need(s).

Behavior Expectations Positive choices are rewarded through various classroom systems (tickets, money, etc.) Poor decision making results in: 1. Warning 2. Recess 5 Card from Cafeteria 3. Loss of privileges 4. Conference with teacher 5. Call/Email home

Birthday Treats NEW District Policy No birthday treats this year. However, students will still be recognized on KPAW and receive their ribbon and pencil in the office.

Schedule/Carpool When Does School Begin? Warning Bell: 7:50 a.m. For early arrivers, the gym will open and be supervised at 7:30. Before 7:50, students may enter through the gym doors or the front doors. At 7:50, the front doors, the loading dock door, and the carpool doors on Amherst will be open, too. Tardy Bell: 8:00 a.m. Dismissal: 3:15 p.m. Carpool Please display your child’s name in your front windshield Please be respectful of the houses/yards on Amherst during dismissal.
