A Quick Guide for Parents about the NWEA Assessment.

 On Line Assessment  Norm Referenced (5.3 million kids)  Adaptive (changes as kids get answers right or wrong)  Intended to measure growth over time (3X is usually when it is the truest score)  At Bingham we do Math, Reading and Language

 MEAP is a State Test, aligned to State Standards.  NWEA is National and is aligned to Common Core.  MEAP is in October, results in February. NWEA is 3X year, results in 24-48 hours.  MEAP same for all, NWEA different for all.  ‘14-‘15 “New MEAP” will be a Smarter Balance to reflect new Common Core Standards (National Standards) this assessment will be similar in format to NWEA.

 Realize it’s a snapshot. For NWEA, the 3 rd time is the truest mark.  There are several other assessments we have:  F&P Fall Win Spr, Wrg Prompt, MEAP,  Classroom Observations, Assignments Assessments  So yes, this is important, but it is a small piece of a bigger puzzle.

 Something we have this year.  Compass Learning, an online individualize d computer support system.

 It provides engaging learning activities that cater to the specific NWEA results your student has had.  So it literally goes hand in hand with NWEA and sets them up with a learning program.  In BBC students are using this a lot.  Across homerooms it is growing, and we are training staff.  YES you can use it at home.  https://www.thelearningodyssey.com/ https://www.thelearningodyssey.com/

 Students login to Compass Learning at: www.compasslearningodyssey.com www.compasslearningodyssey.com  User Name is their BPS login (eev1).  Password is their birthday (9262003)  School is the name of your school (bingham farms)
