Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science was established in 1987 by a generous, private endowment from the Conrad Blucher Family.

Conrad Meuly Blucher b Nueces County Surveyor from 1934 to 1954 b Served as the first president of the Nueces County Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers b In 1967 named “Surveyor of the Year” and 1974 “Engineer of the Year” by the Texas Society of Professional Engineers

Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science Executive Director: James Bonner Division of GIS, Geomatics, and Mapping Dr. Gary Jeffress Division of Nearshore Research Dr. Patrick Michaud Division of Bioacoustics and Nature Studies Dr. Robert Benson Division of Environmental Engineering Dr. James Bonner

Full-Scale Field Controlled Field Increasing Experimental Control Increasing Scale and Applicability CBI Provides Comprehensive and Fully Integrated Research Programs Focused on the Western Gulf Of Mexico DNR GIS DEE BANS

Division of GIS, Geomatics, and Mapping (DGGM) b The Division of GIS, Geomatics and Mapping uses state of the art surveying techniques to map the world and the environmental impact that man has on the limited resources of the Earth.

Projects b Tobasco Project b Galvan / La Copa Ranch Project b GIS for Public Transportation b Nursing Workforce: Beyond 2000

Division of Bioacoustics and Nature Studies b The Division of Bioacoustics and Nature Studies (BANS) was created to add the “people” dimension to the well- established science and engineering divisions of the Blucher Institute. b BANS works with local, state, and national governments to help identify resources and establish policies designed to increase eco-tourism. b Conducts workshops and educational service programs to enhance the value of sensitive ecosystems.

Projects and Education b Center for Bioacoustics Collects and archives high-quality sound recordings of fauna found throughout North and South America.Collects and archives high-quality sound recordings of fauna found throughout North and South America. 10 Division of Environmental Engineering b The Division of Environmental Engineering studies the fate and effects of oil on the Environment. b Shoreline Environmental Research Facility b San Jacinto Wetland Research Facility

Parker’s Cove San Jacinto River b Parker’s Cove is surrounded by 1,600ft of elevated walkway. This allows researchers to sample the wetlands without damaging the ecosystem with foot traffic.

Shoreline Environmental Research Facility (SERF) b The Shoreline Environmental Research Facility has been established in an attempt to answer questions about the identification, effectiveness, and appropriate use of chemical and biological oil-spill response agents. This is done by using wave tanks to simulate the various types of waves and shoreline environments.

The wave tanks have the ability to simulate many conditions such as : –Open water –Ship channels –Oil-Spill Response –Product testing

Division of Nearshore Research (DNR) b The Division of Nearshore Research (DNR) is part of the Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. b DNR activities include: collection of real-time water level, wind speed, and other environmental data from stations placed in the bays and estuaries along the Texas coast. Some of the projects are: Texas Coastal Ocean Observation Network (TCOON), Port of Corpus Christi Real-Time Navigation System, Freeport Flowinfo, Nueces Bay Salinity Monitoring, Oso Creek Dissolved Oxygen, Wind-info, and Contaminants from South Texas Uranium Mines.
