2 INTRODUCTION  Irish writer and poet.  Became one of London's most popular playwrights in the early 1890s.  Only novel The Picture of Dorian Gray.  Imprisonment and early death.

3 EARLY LIFE  Born: 21 Westland Row, Dublin, Ireland. 16 October, 1854.  Father: Sir William Wilde.  Mother: Jane Wilde.  Second of three children.  Father was well educated and was an ear and eye surgeon.  Mother wrote poetry for Irish newspaper.

4 EDUCATION  Homeschooled until the age of 9.  Attended Portora Royal School in Enniskillen.  Scholarship to Trinity College, Dublin.  Left Trinity for scholarship to Magdalen College, Oxford.  Applied for Oxford Union, but was rejected.  Placed first in finals.

5 CAREER  Playwright  Novelist  Poet  Editor  Critic

6 PERSONAL LIFE  Married to Constance Lloyd in 1884.  Two sons.  Had affair with Lord Alfred Douglas, nicknamed ‘Bosie’.  Bosie became love of his life.  Marriage ended in 1893.

7 LATER YEARS  Sentenced to two years of hard labor in 1895.  Wrote De Profundis in prison.  Wrote The Ballad of Reading Gaol upon release in 1897  Died in 1900

8 CONCLUSION  Very famous writer and playwright  Good life in the beginning.  Great parents.  Hard life during the end.
