2 Look for directories that include categories relevant to your site's topic. Some may require a reciprocal link in exchange for your listing, while those that still building their databases may list it for free. Submit your site to the Open Directory Project, which bills itself as the largest ‘human-powered directory’ on the web. Open Directory Project - http://dmoz.org/add.html

3 Search engine crawlers visit sites and automatically build listings, generally without the need to submit your site. Crawler-based search engines, such as Google, create their listings automatically. They "crawl" or "spider" the web, then people search through what they have found. If you change your web pages, crawler-based search engines eventually find these changes, and that can affect how you are listed. Page titles, body copy and other elements all play a role.

5 Yahoo, Google, Msn and other major sites have discussion groups and clubs to which you can post messages. Search groups that you are interested in before posting, and when you do post, make sure that your messages is not a blatant advertisement for your site.

6 Many newbie ‘lurk’ in forums, afraid to post their thoughts and questions. General Guidelines from being banned from forums: Ensure that your topic are in correct forum Many forums have many different topic sections. Be sure to post your messages and questions in the right section.

7 Do not Post: Questions or answers which have already been answered numerous times; Negative or aggressive remarks directed towards other users; Anything not relating to the original topic; Any derogatory comments based on age, gender, race, ethnicity or nationality.

8 Have something to say: A message such as “anyone here?” wastes time when the number of viewers who read the post is taken into consideration. Make intelligent post that have a purpose. Obey copyright rules: Respect the law and do not post copyrighted work unless you have written permission from its owners. Do not promote your own site, unless; It is specifically permitted by the forum rules;

9 Do not spam: Spam includes advertisements, content deemed inappropriate or illegal, and flooding of the boards. Ensure that your signature file: Remains a reasonable size; Does not contain excessively large images or annoying animations; Follows all the rules applying to the post themselv es.

10 Do not invade others privacy: Do not post private addresses or phone numbers, including your own. Do not make needless use of: Emoticons; Line breaks or ALL-CAPS; Nested quotes; Giant fonts; Swearing, derogatory, hate-speech, obscene or vulgar comments.

11 Enjoy the Forums! If you have any problems, just make a post in the appropriate forum, and somebody will help you. Link Trading Link trading is the task of getting links to your site on other sites by trading links. This is done to get more traffic to your web site. Link trading creates more traffic in two main ways, increased search engine rankings and also from the traffic the links themselves generate from people clicking on them.

12 FFA FFA stands for Free For All site. They have been in existence since around 1995. These are pages with the sole purpose of listing links. Practically anyone can post their "ad" on these pages for free. Where the owner of the site doesn't monitor the submissions, this can mean links to some *very* undesirable content are displayed. The ad usually takes the form of a descriptive link and a one to two line description. These listings are usually limited to around 50 and constantly rotating.
