2 Monday’s Answers 1). Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin which quickly and easily removed the seeds from picked cotton and allowed a huge increase in cotton production. 2)Increased cotton production created a higher demand for enslaved African Americans, and trade in enslaved people became a big business.

4 Tuesday’s Answers 1)The three parts to Henry Clay’s American System were the National Bank, Tariffs (tax on imports), and the National Road/Canal System. 2) Irish immigrants built the Erie Canal. Canal systems lowered shipping costs and brought prosperity to towns along their routes.

6 Wednesday’s Answers 1.) The Adams-Onis Treaty between Spain and the US ended all boundary disputes. Spain gave US, East Florida. US gave Spain Texas, and paid all US citizens claims. 2.) The Monroe Doctrine stated: US would stay out of European affairs. Europe would stay out of the Western Hemisphere. The US would oppose any European colonization in the Americas.

8 Thursday’s Answers 1.) Andrew Jackson lead the invasion into Florida. 2.) The Missouri Compromise allowed Missouri to join as a slave state and Maine joined as a free state; keeping slave and free states equal. It also stated that everything north of the Missouri southern border would be a free state.
