Issues to cover tonight Traveling to Moab Accommodations Where to be and when Skills sessions Sunday events What you will need (generally speaking) Food

Travel to Moab Driving to Moab takes 4 – 4 ½ hours Mapquest for directions or ask local students, local businesses Carpooling? Ask around. –Car rentals

Accommodations Jeep Safari! Easter! Green River for hotels (~30 miles north of Moab Goldbar Group Campsite (BLM) –$5/person (for whole weekend) –Website for directions –Bathroom facilities –Great location! –Sign up on sheet in blue binder

Where to be and When Skills session schedule

Required practical skills session Location: Rotary Park (in town) Easter egg hunt… Duration: 3 sessions, each 2 ½ - 3 hours long You will need: water, good shoes, appropriate clothing, snacks Facilities: bathroom, gazebo

Required practical skills session Skills to be covered: –Primary and Secondary Assessment –Splinting –Medical problem solving –Cervical spine stabilization and clearing –Moving the injured patient –Group wilderness scenario

Sport-specific skill sessions Specific sports to be covered: –Hiking medicine –Rock climbing and mountaineering medicine –Water medicine –Bicycling medicine Located at various places in Moab Pick two sessions to attend, sign up in blue book that will be going around.

Hiking Medicine Three sessions: 2 ½ hours long hike Location: –Negro Bill Canyon –Located ~10 miles from center of town Things you will need: –Water, snacks or lunch, pack with some general hiking stuff, good boots

Rock Climbing and Mountaineering Medicine Two sessions: 2 hours Location: –Wall Street climbing area –Located ~10 miles from center of town west along the Colorado River Things you will need: –Water, snacks or lunch, pack with appropriate clothing, etc. –You will not actually climb during the skills session Climbing gear if you plan on climbing later

Cycling Medicine Three (four?) sessions: 1 ½ hours Location: –Rotary Park Things you will need: –Water, snacks or lunch, pack with appropriate clothing –You can have your bike if you would like, but it’s not necessary to have one. –You will not actually go mountain biking during the skills session

Water Medicine Three sessions: 1 ½ hours Location: –Along the Colorado River Things you will need: –Water, snacks or lunch, pack with appropriate clothing, etc. –You will not actually get on the river during the skills session

Skills session sign-ups Blue binder Depending on interest in optional skills sessions, we may move you around a little if necessary (keeping you in your requested optional sport-specific skill) –Please sign up for one required practical skills session –Please sign up for two (or more) optional skills sessions

What you will need Food for all meals except Saturday night cookout Snacks Lots of water Comfortable clothing Equipment for any other activities you plan on enjoying in Moab! Camping equipment: –Outdoor Recreation Center rentals, REI

Saturday night Cookout at Rotary Park – provided. We will provide vegetarian (and vegan), options. It is free for participants! Anticipate a lot of fun camping at Goldbar!

Sunday All activities are optional, but really great opportunities. –Wetlands hike with Dr. Ingebretson –Corona and Bow Tie Arch hike with Bill Christiansen in am, Cable Arch in pm Trailhead located at Goldbar Campground –Mountain bike on Slickrock Trail with Dr. Judy Klein –Outdoor Survival Skills with Mike Hawkins –Search and Rescue in Grand County with Steve Young
