5 things every computer worker should know

It’s important you know your computer as thoroughly as you know your own bedroom. Take the time to explore the parts of your computer, don’t be shy, it doesn’t bite. Make your workspace a comfortable environment where you can access any materials needed.

It’s essential to remove jewelry, pull hair out of your face, and wear rubber sole shoes. Excessive amounts of jewelry can be hazardous to your computer as well as long hair or styles. High heels should not be worn, for if not cautious you could trip over wires.

Before even touching your computer, keep in mind you should always be prepared for a fire. Take a minute to locate a fire extinguisher in case worse comes to worse. You must also exit the room immediately if a fire alarm occurs somewhere else in the building.

DON’T ever overload any electrical outlets! DO tell your supervisor if you encounter a problem of any kind immediately! DO keep floor clean. This means it is clear of cords, paper, or any other item. DON’T attempt to mess with a computer if you haven’t been trained.

You should always notify your supervisor about injuries in you or injuries in another worker. Better safe than sorry whether it’s a minor injury or a major one. Be an advocate for yourself and others.
