High School Grads Unprepared 7 out of 10 students graduate without completing the courses needed to succeed in college or the workplace. Of those who go on to college, 49% require remedial courses. 80% of manufacturers report shortages of qualified job candidates. Employers in all sectors complain about: communication and math skills, problem-solving, decision making, conscientiousness, and dependability. By the end of the decade we will face a shortage of 12 million qualified workers for the fastest-growing sectors of the job market. The Clifford Adelman Study - Findings The strongest predictor of college completion is a rigorous and challenging high school course of study. Most significantly, the higher the level of mathematics completed in secondary school, the stronger the continuing influence on bachelor’s degree completion. Experimental (lab) science coursework is the second most significant factor in determining whether or not students will complete college.
