Kolossense 1:13-23
2
Background Recap Brief, geskryf deur Paulus aan die kerk in Kolosse Grootste rede vir die brief was om dwaalleer te bestry Ons leer 5 beginsels by Paulus in Kol. 1:3-11 – Bid! (1:3; 1:9) – Woord Gesentreerd (1:5-6) – Bid vir kennis en Wysheid (1:9) – Wees Gehoorsaam (1:10) – Leef uit God se krag (1:11)
3
Colossians 1:13-23 He has delivered us – From the kingdom of darkness! – We are transferred into God’s kingdom! In Him we have redemption – The forgiveness of sins
4
Colossians 1:13-23 He is the image of the invisible God – Image is the reality of what it represents – Jesus Christ is the exact image or representation of God who is Spirit – Jesus Christ put face, flesh and bones to who God is
5
Colossians 1:13-23 He is the firstborn of all creation – Jesus is sovereign over all creation! By Him all things were created
6
Colossians 1:13-23 All things were created through Him and for Him – All that came into being exists for Christ, that is, it exists to display the greatness of Christ – Nothing, nothing in the universe exists for its own sake – Everything was created to make the greatness of Christ more fully known
7
Colossians 1:13-23 He is before all things In Him all things hold together He is the head of the body, the church – Hy is in beheer… – Ons volg Hom!
8
Colossians 1:13-23 He is the beginning In Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell
9
Colossians 1:13-23 Through Him all things are reconciled to Himself by the blood of His cross – “So spacious is He, so roomy, that everything of God finds its proper place in Him without crowding. Not only that, but all the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe—people and things, animals and atoms—get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, all because of His death, His blood that poured down from the cross.” (MSG)
10
Colossians 1:13-23 We were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds He has now reconciled us in order to present us holy and blameless and above reproach before God
11
Colossians 1:13-23 It gets even better than this…
12
Colossians 1:13-23 Col. 1:27-28 (MSG) The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you, so therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple. That is the substance of our Message. We preach Christ, warning people not to add to the Message. We teach in a spirit of profound common sense so that we can bring each person to maturity. To be mature is to be basic. Christ! No more, no less.
