Top Tips for Success Design Assignment
2
Top Tips Get the maximum credit for your ideas. Use a range of drawing techniques and annotations to fully explain your thinking. Present ideas as they occur. The act of sketching an idea often helps you think of the other ideas that need further explanation. Use annotation, much of your thinking will be lost if you don’t write down some of your thoughts. Stick to the task, make a genuine attempt to produce a solution to the task given. Display wider knowledge i.e. The products function, construction etc.

Top Tips Present your ideas as they occur. The act of sketching often helps you to think of other ideas that require further explanation and development. Make every effort to answer the design task. This should improve constant evaluation of your own ideas. It may appear easier to ignore the task and specification when generating ideas, but in reality it makes creativity and development more difficult. Make sure you get max credit for your ideas. One drawing for each may idea may not be sufficient to fully explain your thinking. Use a range of drawing techniques and annotations to fully explain your thinking.

Top Tips Use annotation and also highlight comments that show you have a deeper understanding of the problem. This offers a quicker means of communication at this stage of the design process. A formal evaluation is not a necessary requirement for the design assignment, but it offers the opportunity to show that the ideas have been referenced to the specification and promising ideas have been identified and justified. Use every opportunity to display communication skills. Highlight comments that are important to the design’s development.

Top Tips Split the development into manageable parts. Don’t leave model making to last. Models offer more potential when used as a development tool rather than for mere presentation. Making models is an effective means of development and presentation of ideas. Models offer the potential to view ideas in 3D, generating valuable information on a wide range of issues. Choose the correct material and model type to suit the info required.

Top Tips Make sure you leave enough time to present your finished proposal. This could include 2D or 3D rendered drawings, models or a combination of all three. Remember, time is important- don’t spend too long producing finished models. Make sure that your finished proposal is fully referenced and justified against the task and specification.
