Pylodictis olivaris A.K.A. the flathead catfish The term “ Pylodictis is Greek The term olivaris is Latin Pylodictis means “mud fish” Olivaris means “olive-colored”

Distribution The flathead catfish comes from the Mississippi river Also from parts of Gulf States Some from stream’, river’s, canals, and lakes

Classification Yellow Fish Opelousas Related to the Satan genus They are also benthic feeders

Effects On Ecosysystem They compete with the other native fish They impact the blue crab They affect sturgeons as well

Effects on People The fish affects human health They accumulate toxins which can harm the human body It is best not to eat the fish
