Geography of Japan What the geography is like 1.Lots of mountains and little flat land 2.Japanese live on islands How it influences Japanese culture 1.People live where the land is flat along the coast. 2. separated from other cultures and developed their own unique culture. However, Japan was influenced by nearby China and Korea.

6. Japanese life 1.Japanese lived in clans (extended families) in small farming villages. 2.clan chiefs ruled their village & clan. 3.Chiefs were believed to have gained their power through kami, nature spirits of Shinto.

The First Emperors – The Yamato Clan 1.The Yamato clan was very strong 2.They conquered many clans around them and controlled most of Honsu (the big island). 3.Believed they were descended from the goddess of the sun Kami 4.Because of these things the leaders of the Yamato clan began to call themselves emperor.
