12. Health Care Disease and malnutrition, or poor nutrition caused by lack of food, are still problems for millions of Indian people. The current life expectancy is 64.8 years (2009).

13. Education A country’s literacy rate shows the percentage of the population age 15 and over that can read and write. India’s current literacy rate is 74%. List of Steps taken by Government of India to improve Literacy Rate in India: Free education programs to poor people living in villages and towns. Setting up of new school and colleges at district and state levels. Several committees have been formed to ensure proper utilization of funds allotted to improve literacy rate.
