1 Learning outcomes ALL MUST be able to draw simple rectangles and diagonals. MOST SHOULD be able to record in table form a set of results to identify relationships between 3 variables. SOME COULD use results to find mathematical connections and present them formally as a formula.

2 Diagonals & Rectangles Mark out several rectangles of different sizes. The width and lengths should be whole numbers. Now draw one diagonal on each rectangle and record the number of squares (d) that it crosses. W = 3 L = 6

3 Diagonals & Rectangles Use a table like this. There is a nice relationship connecting L, W and D. See if you can find it. You may need several examples to spot the connection. L (length)W (width)D (squares) 636
