1 Parent Advisory Group

2 Why Have a Parent Advisory Group ? Special Education Parent Advisory Groups are required for all school districts in New Jersey. The purpose of these groups is to provide opportunities for parents to offer input and partner with the districts on special education issues. The Special Education New Jersey Administrative Code 6A: 14-1.2(h) states: Each board of education shall ensure that a special education advisory group is in place in the district to provide input to the district on issues concerning students with disabilities.

3 What is the Purpose of a Parent Advisory Group? To allow parents/guardians to provide direct input on policies, programs, and practices that impact services for children with special needs; To advise on matters that pertain to the education, health and safety of children with special needs; To increase the involvement of families of children with special needs in making recommendations on special education policies.

4 Please Note: A Parent Advisory Group is not the forum for a discussion about your child's IEP or individual students. Topics should be limited to those that impact all or a group of students. Individual issues should be addressed with your assigned Case Manager.
