IS Assessment Test One campus’s use
2
Why do assessment? First, assessment is what we faculty members can do in order to demonstrate to ourselves that we actually do what we say we do. It is our source of in-process feedback. Second, assessment satisfies the demands for accountability by external agencies.
3
Why - continued Our ‘output’ is not teaching; it is, in fact, student learning. Thus, assessment programs need to shift their focus from ‘what we teach’ to ‘what they have learned.’ The goal of assessment is improved student learning, and the data we gather can play a critical role in improving curricular programs”.

WHY? For quantitative feedback as to how your program is doing For program improvement For funding!!! If scores are low – go to the dean ‘we need to have better labs, more professors, smaller classes, etc.’ If scores are high – go to the dean ‘we have a great thing going – we need to keep that competitive advantage, etc.’

For Accreditation Regional accrediting agencies want proof: Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools New England Association of Schools and Colleges North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Western Association of Schools and Colleges School / program accreditation: AACSB / ABET
