3 The Florida Comprehension Assessment Test (FCAT) is part of Florida’s overall plan to increase student achievement by implementing higher standards for public school students. The FCAT has four sections: reading, writing, science and math. What is the FCAT 2.0?

4 All public and public charter school students in grades 3-10 are required to take the FCAT. Who takes the FCAT?

5 The FCAT is given to measure achievement of the Sunshine State Standards that are being taught and learned by Florida students. Why do students take the FCAT?

10 Read with them every night. Ask your child about what he or she is reading (characters, setting, problem, resolution). Use task cards to monitor comprehension (in your child’s binder). What can you do to help your child in reading?

13 Number: Base Ten and Fractions - 50% Expressions, Equations, and Statistics - 20% Geometry and Measurement - 30% What will be assessed?

14 FCAT 2.0 Mathematics will be computer based. It consists 35-40 multiple choice and 10-15 gridded response questions. 5 th graders will be tested in two 70-minute sessions with a break in the middle of each session. Students in grades 5-8 will receive a reference sheet to use during the FCAT 2.0 Mathematics sessions How will math be assessed?

15 Review math homework every night. Help students relate math to every day situations. Log on to think central, debrief exams that are given and practice, practice, practice. What can you do to help your child in Math?

18 5 th graders will be assessed in Science. Who will take the Science F-CAT?

19 Grades 5 FCAT 2.0 Science will be administered in two 80-minute sessions with a break in the middle of each session. All test questions will be in a multiple choice format (#60- 66). How will Science be assessed?

21 Read and discuss science book/sciencesaurus or any other science related reading materials. Encourage your child to investigate different science questions (experiments-Scientist of the Month). Help child make a correlation between the real world and what they are learning in science. What can you do to help your child in Science?
