A scale gives the relationship between the measurements on the drawing or model and the measurements of the real object.

A map has a scale of 1 inch = 8 miles.
Example 1: A map has a scale of 1 inch = 8 miles. Two towns are 3.25 inches apart on the map. a. What is the actual distance between the two towns?

Example 3: Sheila is designing a patio that is 16 feet long and 14 feet wide. Make a scale drawing of the patio. Use a scale of 0.5 inches = 4 feet.
