People, Work and Development Measuring Development Objective: …to understand what development is, and to think about how it can be measured. …to understand the advantages and disadvantages of using indicators to measure development Think about this question – what is development? How could development be measured?

So what does development mean? I think development means….. …..to grow and move through different stages… to progress and change

Some meanings.. Birth Rate means the number of live births per thousand of population per year For the UK the number is 12 This means that for every 1000 people in the UK 12 are born every year The population of the UK is 70 million 70 million divided by 1000 = 70,000 So, the actual number of births in the UK is 70,000 x 12 = 840,000 Death Rate the number of deaths per one thousand people per year.
