Before the Speech Listen as your teacher reads a book about the president to learn what a president does.

Before the Speech Answer the following questions with your elbow partner. Who is the President of the United States? What do you think it takes to be President? Why do you think he wants to speak to you? What do you think he will say to you?

During the Speech As President Obama is Speaking, complete the President Chart by listing things that he is asking people to do. If you are in Pre-K, kindergarten, first, or second grade, your teachers may list these for you.

After the Speech Answer the following questions with your elbow partner. What do you think the President wants you to do? What does the speech make you want to do? How can you do what President Obama is asking of you? What would you like to tell the President?

Reflection Think of a goal that President Obama’s speech has encouraged you to set. Write this goal on a post-it note. Your teacher will ask you about your goal and how you are achieving it.
