7 What is Content? ► Content is conventionally considered as some form of audiovisual, visual, sound or textual information ► Content according to the formal SMPTE/ EBU definition consists of: ► Essence, i.e. the raw programme material itself  Video  Sound  Images  Text ► Metadata, that describes the essence  Content related data describing the actual information  Material related data describing available formats  Location related data describing location, number of copies, condition of carrier, etc.
