Polygons are found in nature and the real-world around us all the time. For example, the hexagonal shape of a honeycomb, which many of you know from Honeycomb’s cereal. Many of us don’t really think of our cereal as polygons. Plus, look at where you’re sitting right now. Your desk is a polygon, so is this Smartboard, and so is this whole classroom (besides when the door’s open).

Giant’s Causeway in Ireland -Giant’s Causeway occurred when the lava cooled down and formed areas of tightly packed hexagonal columns of basalt. It’s amazing to see even nature on it’s own have polygons involved.

Having polygons in our every-day life is actually something pretty important that many of us don’t realize. Whether it be in something we use all the time (like food), or in Mother Nature, polygons are always around us. You’re all actually sitting on a quadrilateral right now, if you really think about it.
