Power Supply A group of circuits used to convert ac to dc.
Rectifier – Converts ac to pulsating dc. Filter – Reduces variations in the rectifier output. Voltage regulator – Maintains a constant dc output voltage.
5
Rectifier Rectifier is an electronic device used for converting ac voltage into dc voltage. It utilizes PN junction diode Rectifiers are classified into two types Half wave rectifier Full wave rectifier
6
Half Wave Rectifier The Half wave rectifier is a circuit, which converts an ac voltage to dc voltage during only one half cycle only. In the Half wave rectifier circuit shown above the transformer serves two purposes. It can be used to obtain the desired level of dc voltage (using step up or step down transformers). It provides isolation from the power line.
7
Full Wave Rectifier The full wave rectifier is a circuit, which converts an ac voltage to dc voltage during both positive and negative half cycles. Types Centre tapped full wave rectifier Bridge Rectifier
