HSTW: History SREB/HSTW Began 1987 with 28 sites in 13 states Now 1,200+ sites in 30 states Approximately 120+ active sites in Georgia Nationally recognized model for School Improvement Data Driven

HSTW Major Goals Get 85% of students to meet mathematics, science, and communications goals. Teach all classes including C/T to college prep standards. Increase to 90% the number of entering 9 th grade students that graduate in 4 years. Increase to 85% all graduates with a concentration in C/T, academic, or blended major. Have all students leave high school with postsecondary credit prepared to do postsecondary studies. Work to increase middle grade student’s ability to complete college prep standards in high school.

Administrative Support A MUST Consider student achievement and instruction as major priorities Provide data driven staff development Involve teachers for buy-in Share data with teachers and staff Provide common teacher planning time Classroom walkthroughs

Guidance and Advisement HSTW Recommends “Teachers As Advisors” Administration assumes leadership role in training teachers Guidance Curriculum by Grade level Enhances parent involvement Teachers better understand students requirements Teachers follow students for four years
