WITH EMBEDDED PROCESS SKILL : 5.1B The student is expected to solve problems that incorporate understanding the problem, making a plan, carrying out the plan, and evaluating the solution for reasonableness. Mr. Cantu will put 1 flag on each table in the cafeteria for a school event. The cafeteria has 15 rows with 5 tables in each row and 12 rows with 4 tables in each row. Mr. Cantu already has 94 flags. 6. Reading In Language Arts we will be discussing and writing about our reading. This may be accomplished in the form of: Book clubs Blogging Readers Response Book Presentations Conferences with teacher Book Talks

7. Most feedback is provided via rubrics provided to students at the time of the assignment for the purpose of self-assessment. Teachers will grade with the rubric as well and send home. Graded work: In order to provide timely feedback, graded work will be sent home in their binder on a daily basis rather than holding for Wednesday folder. Please go over errors with your child and have them correct any failing grades, then return to teacher with a parent signature. 8. How will my child be held accountable? Students will be recording their ideas, practicing new strategies, and taking notes in journals during lessons. These journals will be a discussion point during student/teacher conferences for the purposes of students demonstrating their efforts to practice new strategies and for goal setting. Journals primarily remain at school. If you are interested in viewing your child’s journal, you are welcome anytime. Learning Behaviors: stand and command, attentive listening, speaking and writing in complete sentences, maintaining a good learning posture

10. Reading- Be involved in your child’s reading. Help students meet their reading goal by providing time for your child to read daily. Students will be checking in with the teacher on a weekly basis to inform the teacher of the book they have selected and the pages read. In addition to checking in with the teacher, every six week each student will create a presentation over their book. More information will be coming on this. 11. Math- Ask your child to explain their thinking about any problem or conversation you have with them. Also ask them about problems they are solving in math. Fact Fluency-memorize multiplication operations up to 12 Visit teacher website for recommended sites

12. How can you support at home? Ask students to speak in complete sentences. This is a non-negotiable at Nance. Check out our newsletters. They will contain homework for the week and tips for learning. Make sure kids are reading every night. Check blue cards daily

14. STAAR Students will be taking the Math, Science, and Reading STAAR test this year. This is an SSI year for Math and Reading.

15. Nuts and Bolts All ride changes go through the office in the morning Graded papers will go home throughout the week or Wednesday folders. Informational flyers go home on Wednesdays.
