6 History Following the destruction of the city of Troy, the inhabitants set off to find new lands. According to a 12th-century monk named Geoffrey of Monmouth, when Brutus (a descent of Troy) landed in Britain it was inhabited by a race of giants led by Gog and Magog.

7 After wrestling them into submission, Brutus chained them to the doors of his palace, he built on the site where the Guildhall is today. Today, Gog and Magog are considered the traditional guardians of the City of London, and images of the two have been carried in the Lord Mayor’s Show since the reign of Henry V.

13 Plan an itinerary for London Now plan your own trip in London. You can visit 5 places of interest but you need to know how to get to these places using public transport. -Hand out itinerary worksheet

15 Closer activity Get into pairs. Label yourself A and B Person A must pick an area they would like to visit using the maps. (Use one of the destinations you picked in your plans) Person B will have to explain the quickest route to get to the chosen place. Did they get it right? Now switch over!
