3. The End-User Experience User counts and type determination Who are the wireless users? What are the uses/applications? Plan for 2 devices per 1 user ratio Per-User Capacity Planning What are the current and potential usage? Plan for 802.11n as 802.11g is limited Coverage Areas and Density How many users/devices at what locations? Diagrams? Plan 1 AP per classroom Perform a post installation wireless site survey To audit and remediate installation DO NOT use mobile AP’s such as AP on a mobile cart

4. End-User Continued Definition of Types of Clients What types of client devices? 802.11b/g, 802.11a, and/or 802.11n 2.4 Ghz and 5.0 Ghz? Plan for iPads weakest transmit power of most devices Migrate to 5.0 Ghz 802.11n and/or 802.11a Eliminate 802.11b systems Minimize/eliminate 802.11g systems, and 2.4 Ghz Update client drivers and software are regularly

5. Environment & Operating Site Survey and Monitoring What is the environmental noise? Has a spectrum analysis been done? Without a specific survey, design 1 AP per room Optionally, use Ekahau planning tool for design Linking WLAN Components to Wired Infrastructure Is there Gig wiring for proposed AP locations? Are there enough switched based PoE ports? Recommend dedicated 2 wiring drops to each AP Assume the district has good power High availability Is redundancy in the controller required?

6. Environment Continued Maintenance and Repair Same day or next business day replacement contract? What is plan wireless equipment software updates? Provide same day replacement on controllers, none for AP Provide licensing of software updates on all components Network Management Who will manage wireless system? What is rogue AP’s policy? Migration Strategy for Existing Mixed Networks Are there legacy access points? Replace all the existing AP’s and controllers

7. Network Services Security and Authentication Will the client devices support WPA2-AES? Are there clients that won’t? What is district policy for BYOD and Guest access? Use WPA2-AES Advanced Network Protocols Is support of VoIP wireless handsets needed? Location-Based Services Are location-based services required? What proximity to asset is needed? Include location services, with accuracy within 5 meters
