Vocabulary Notice "consequent" means "resulting", and "consequently" means "as a result". Grammatical difference Ex: Stock values declined, with consequent financial losses to investors. = Stock values declined; consequently, investors financial losses were significant. Ex: I was very worried, and my consequent difficulty concentrating resulted in my failing the exam. = I was very worried; consequently, I had difficulty concentrating and ended up failing the exam. "consequently" is used much more often than "consequent"

Vocabulary Notice The police response and _________________________ (consequence) actions were not enough to save all of the victims. In this case both consequent and consequential are ok The two words are the same when they mean "resulting". However, "consequential" can also mean "important", which is not true of "consequent". (However, we usually use "inconsequential" more than "consequential"): Ex: The change to the schedule was consequential. = The change to the schedule was not inconsequential. ("Consequent" cannot be used in these sentences.)
