Biodiesel from algae can be used to completely replace fossil fuel.
3
Biodiesel are fuels that are in essence, biodegradable and are nontoxic. This can be gotten from, bottles, polythene, algae and waste etc. Algae are large and diverse group of simple autotrophic organism. Ranging from unicellular to multicellular. Fossil fuel is a hydrocarbon deposit such as petroleum, coal and natural gas derived from living matter and used as fuel.
4
Fossil fuels release toxic and harmful gases e.g. co2, methane, CFC etc into the atmosphere. This gases causes global warming and green house effect which makes the environment unsuitable for living.
5
Green house effect Rise in sea level Drought and flood Global warming Dangerous weather pattern Melting of the polar ice cap
6
Produce biodiesel from algae and at the same time reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.
7
1) Oil press 2) Hexane solvent method 3) Supercritical fluid method
8
Advantages Algae oil can be used to treat waste water Algae can be cultivated in different weather condition or environment algae e.g. desert and sewage etc. Disadvantage biodiesel needs a very large land for cultivation of algae. As a result there will be reduction in land as well as food. This is because food crops needs to be cultivated.
