The importance of teaching PDHPE in Primary School. Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) is an important part of every childs’ schooling life.

Over the years there has been a great concern of obesity in our schools. PDHPE in schools is extremely important. It allows the children to be physically active and provides them with the appropriate knowledge to make healthy decisions (Tinning, McCuaig and Hunter, 2006).

In PDHPE children will learn knowledge that is implemented into everyday life. For example road safety, nutrition, physical activity and personal development.

PDHPE allows children to develop certain skills: -Social skills -Decision making -Cognitive skills -Team work (Tinning, McCuaig and Hunter, 2006).

Children are able to develop their fine, and gross motor skills and fundamental movement skills. Children are able to express themselves and communicate through movement.
