NOTICING THE INFLUENCE OF TV ON CHILDREN
2
THINGS PARENTS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT TV AND THEIR CHILDREN TV has its good sides. It can be very entertaining, educational, and let kids travel to different place and learn about different cultures that would not normally encounter be able to learn in their own community. Show with a good message can have a positive effect on children and positive role models on programs can influence young viewers to make good lifestyle changes. However, if your thinking of the reverse side of all of this, then that is also true. Children are likely to learn something's parents would not want to learn. TV can disrupt children’s behavior, health, and family life as well. DID YOU KNOW? Did you know children ages 2-5 on average spend 32 hours a week in front of a TV. Did you also know that 51% of households have the TV on most of the time. Did you know kids see the favorite characters in some shows smoking and drinking. Did you know children and youth see on average about 2,000 beer and wine ads on TV each year.

GETTING CHILDREN BACK INTO BETTER ACTIVITIES Getting kids back into other activities can be very simple, but I won’t make it sound easy. We want children to get into physical activities, reading and spending more time with family instead of eyeballing a Television screen all day long. TIPS ON HOW TO TAKE BACK CONTROL OF THE TV 1.For starters, parents should monitor the TV’s or use the parental control as said in most TV guides. 2. Next, parents should limit how much time child waste away with TV, pull the plug sometimes. 3.Last, find more family activities children can get into and enjoy as well. By following these instructions it should be easy to gain back control over the Televisions.

WHAT ABOUT EDUCATIONAL TV PROGRAMS? As said before some TV programs can be very educational for children. Children can not only watch TV, but learn a lot of good things too. For example; children can learn their abc’s and 123’s from shows and TV programs such as, sprout, nick jr, pbs kids, and sesame street. Sounds like some pretty good programs, right? But had you ever considered this; For how long will these shows keep my child entertained? Will my child find and interest in something else? Well lets put it this way, there are some good shows TV has to offer for children, but the simple fact is children grow out of those shows very quick, more or so around the ages of 6 and 7. Children are very curious and will soon come to know how to surf the channels and may end up finding something unsuitable for their eyes. It would be of the parents best interest to keep a watchful eye out for what their kids watch. So if there is something the parent disapprove of, they can prevent their child from watching or listening to some very miss leading things.
