3 The Legislative Branch The Legislative Branch in the US is also called Congress The word Congress refers to the Legislative Branch of the US Government Congress is Bicameral – meaning it has two houses (Bi – means “two”) By two houses, that means two buildings, two institutions where people work to write laws

4 Legislative Branch Congress is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives The Senate has equal representation – meaning each state gets to vote for the same number of Senators to go to Congress and write laws for the country The House of Representatives has representation based on population – that means that each state gets to vote for people to go and write laws for the country, but that states with larger populations get to send more people to the House of Reps and states with smaller populations get to send fewer people
