2 A. Teaching Demands and Aims: 1. To know relative words or phrases about lifestyles, TV programmes and daily activities. 2. To get the main idea of the two texts by reading quickly and answer the relative questions 3. To discuss favourite TV programmes and daily activities and talk freely about the lifestyles of Brian, Bob and their partners. 4. To tell healthy lifestyles, realize the importance and learn to form good habits.

3 B. Teaching Procedures: Lead-in Step 1. T shows a TV guide, ask students which programmes they watched. ( 2 minuts

5 Pre-reading ( Before students start ) Now answer these questions: What are your favourite kinds of TV programmes? Do you ever watch too much TV? How much time do you spend watching TV every day? Step 2. T tells students to look at their books and do Exercise 1. Now do Exercise 1 on page 8.

6 guessing What kind of lifestyles do you think the men in the pictures have ? What are the meanings of the two titles ---“ A Couch Potato” and “ A Workaholic”? How different are they ? Now look at the two pictures and discuss with your partners. Do Exercise 2 on page 8. Step 3. T asks them to work in pairs and predict what kind of lifestyles each man has by looking at the pictures and guessing the meanings of the titles and try to describe the two men with the key words on page 7.

7 Useful Expressions to Describe Now let’s study the following expressions,listen to me carefully, try to guess their meanings and reading after me. couch potato, switch off / on, switch over, portable, remote control. alarm clock, go off, take up, be filled with, urgent matters, personal email, document, get bored, besides, for fun. Step 4. While eliciting the expressions, T demonstrate the pronunciation and Ss practice reading them aloud after T.

9 Reading Step 5. While-reading ( Read to learn ) Do Exercise 3 and Exercise 4 Skim the two texts and check your prediction to get a general idea of the two texts. Read the two texts again and underline the TV programmes that Brian usually watches and the kinds of work Bob does every day. Read them a third time and answer these questions

10 QUESTIONS 1. Is Brian a lazy person? Can you find examples of his lazy behaviour? 2. What do you think “You ‘ve got the world at your feet” means? 3. How dos Bob spend his morning and evening ? 4. Why does Bob’s family complain? 5. Why does Bob work so hard?

11 Voice Your Opinion Step 6 Post-reading. Do Ex 5 and 6. 1. Are Brian and Bob’s lifestyles healthy? 2. What can they do to improve their lifestyles? T leads Ss to a brief discussion about the two kinds of lifestyles. Ss work in groups and tell each other their opinions, and give reasons and suggestions to improve them.

12 Pair Work Is your partner a “couch potato”, a “ workaholic” or neither ? Ask questions like these: What do you do at weekends? Do you often study at weekends? …… Ss work in pairs. T leads Ss to an interview of each other and find out about their partners’ lifestyles and asks some students to report their partners’ lifestyles to the class.

13 Listen to the tape and read aloud after the tape. Bye-bye
