Calhoun anonymously writes The South Carolina Exposition and Protest (1828)  Reflecting the ideas of Jefferson and Madison in the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions of 1798, Calhoun argued in favor of nullification  Nullification  Nullification – a state has the right to void a law passed by Congress if deemed unconstitutional  Vice President John C.
