Midterm Review Algebra 1

What might be some smart review strategies for the next couple of days as we get ready for your midterm? Your midterm on MONDAY IS WORTH 25% OF YOUR GRADE!

Trashketball  I am splitting you into teams of 4.  EVERY PERSON in your group must have a whiteboard and marker. In order for your group to get the chance to shoot, everyone must have all of the correct work and answer on their whiteboard when I count down.  When I count down from 5, everyone in your group must silently hold their whiteboards in the air to be eligible.  After each round, groups that earn a point for having all of the correct work and answers will earn the right to shoot for more points!  The more questions we get through, the better this review is and the more chances your group gets to shoot the ball!

 Write an equation then solve: The sum of two consecutive odd integers is 78. Find the integers.

 Given y = 4x – 12,  find the range if the domain is {-3, 0, 1, 4}

 Distribute: 8(x – 2)

 Solve for a  b = 3a – c

 Find three consecutive odd integers whose sum is –465.

 If the original price of a sweater was $40 and then it got marked down to $36, what was the percent decrease?

 Use the distributive property to write an expression that is equivalent to 24x + 6

 Sports Authority has a baseball bat that was originally $60 on sale for 15% off. Dick’s Sporting Goods has the same bat. There, it was originally $75 but is 30% off. Which store now offers a better deal for the baseball bat? Show your work and explain your answer.

 Write an equation and then solve:  9 is added to the quotient of a number y and 2. The result is 10. Find the number.

 Shelby invests $2,000 in an account that earns 2.5% annual interest. How much interest will Shelby earn in 3 years? (Hint: I=prt)

 Sharon earns $25 per item she sells plus a base salary of $100 per week. Write and solve an inequality to find how many items she must sell to earn at least $700 per week.

 Write an inequality for the graph below:

 A student claims that the graph below represents the solution of the inequality 5x – 7 < 13. What error did the student make? What should the graph of the solution be?

 A flagpole casts a 32-ft shadow. A boy who is 6 feet tall is standing near the flagpole casting a 16-ft shadow. They form similar triangles. How tall is the flagpole?

 Translate and solve:  Some number p is either more than 13, or at most 6.

 Pablo can wash 6 cars in 78 minutes. At this rate, how many cars can he wash in 195 minutes?

 Solve for e cd + e = f

 In order to receive at least a B (85%)average on his tests, Andrew’s grades so far have been an 89%, 79%, and a 83%. Write an inequality that shows the grade he needs on his test tomorrow. Solve the inequality to find the lowest grade he would need.

 The speed limit on the road is 55 mph. The police officer is using a radar device to monitor speed. He allows people to exceed the limit by 5 mph or drive under the limit by 10 mph without giving them a ticket. Write a compound inequality representing the speed which drivers can travel without getting a ticket.

 The scale of a map is 1 in. : 75 km. Determine the distance between two towns that are 5.6 in. apart on the map.

 A 12-ounce can of green beans is sold for $1.45. What is the price per pound?
