QUESTION: WHICH SOLVENT WILL REMOVE INK BEST? VINEGAR? HAIR SPRAY? ALCOHOL? WISK DETERGENT? WATER?
3
THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECTIS TO DETERMINE WHAT CHEMCALS WILL TAKE INK OUT OF CLOTHES. IT IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IN CASE YOU GET INK ON YOUR CLOTHES YOU CAN GET IT OUT.
4
Hypothesis WE HYPOTHISIZE that hair spray will remove ink Because one of our teammates mom suggested that we use it !
5
materials QUARTER 5 CM BY 5 CM FABRIC PIECES 500 ML 4 CUPS 625 ML WATER 625 ML VINAGER 625 ML OF ALCHOL 625 ML DETERGENT LABELS MARKERS
6
MANIPULATED/INDEPENDENT: DIFFERENT SOLVENTS RESPONDING /DEPENDENT: HOW MUCH INK IS REMOVED CONSTANT. Variables: SAME FABRIC, SAME AMOUNT OF INK, SAME AMOUNT OF CHEMICALS VARIABLES
7
Directions 1. Trace a quarter on 5 cloth squares 2. Color in the circle with ink 3. Fill a cup with 125 ml of water and label cup. 4. Fill a cup with 125 ml of vinegar and label cup. 5. Fill a cup with 125 ml of Wisk detergent and label cup. 6. Fill a cup with 125 ml of alcohol and label cup. 7. Place one cloth square in each cup. 8. Soak cloth 24 hours.
8
9. Remove cloth from cup. Rate amount of ink on cloth using the rating scale 0 to 10 with zero being no ink removed and ten is all ink removed. 10. Repeat steps one through ten NO NO
12
CONCLUSION OUR HYPOTHESIS WAS INCORRECT. WATER WORKED THE BEST TO TAKE INK OUT FROM THE CLOTH. WATER’S AVERAGE REMOVAL RATE WAS 6.2, DETERGENT’S WAS 2.8, ALCOHOL’S WAS 4.4, AND HAIR SPRAY’S WAS 3.o.
