1 + eSembler & Canvas A Parent’s Guide

2 + What is eSembler? eSembler is a web-based grade book designed for use in the K- 12 school districts. It allows parents to view assignment grades, grade categories, attendance and set up notifications of grade status. It requires no special software; just a computer with internet access, a web browser and an e-mail address.

3 + Benefit of Using eSembler You no longer have to wait for the Progress Report to know what is going on with your child’s grades. You can look at the most up-to-date version of your child’s grades You can set up eSembler to notify you if your child’s grades drop below a certain percentage. Students can create accounts to monitor their own grades too!

4 + Where can I find it? https://grades.pasco.k12.fl.us It can also be found under the “Students” tab on the JLMS webpage

5 + Setting Up eSembler You will need the following information for each child you wish to create an account for: Student ID # Birthdate Social Security # Navigate to eSembler and Click “Create New Account”

6 + Then…

7 + After the Account Creation… You will receive a confirmation e-mail to finish the verification of your new account. Will come within 5-10 minutes You MUST click the link to activate the account

8 + Now Add Students!

9 + E-mail Notifications Click on e-mail notifications to establish your desired settings

11 + Gradebook Click on the class name to see a more detailed report of the class which includes assignments, grades and other important information.

12 + Setting Up a Parent Account in Canvas Go to https://pasco.instructure.com/login/ca nvas https://pasco.instructure.com/login/ca nvas Click on the green “Parent of a Canvas User” flag on the login window Complete the information in the Parent Signup box Child’s Username = student number Child’s Password = “funky” password If you already have a parent account and need to add a new child, click the “Settings” button in the top right corner of the main page, go to “Observing” in the left side menu, and add additional children.

13 + Checking your Child’s Progress To check grades and assignments that have been submitted, click “Grades” in the dark blue navigation bar on the page. From the “Courses I’m Taking” menu, click on the class you wish to view. You can click on the blue assignment names to see submission details including grades, teacher comments, and the digital copies of the assignment in some cases To view different classes, select the drop down menu next to “For the Course” and select the appropriate class

14 + Looking at Learning Modules Modules are used to organize the videos, assignments, and quizzes for a unit of study into one place for easy access. Click the “Courses and Groups” drop down next to the Pasco Canvas Logo on the top left side of the blue navigation bar Select the class you would like to view from the dropdown. For math classes, the home page will contain the modules for the quarter. In other classes you may need to select “Modules from the grey, left-side navigation bar.

15 + Canvas Communication To contact the teacher through Canvas, click on the “Inbox” icon on the right side of the blue navigation bar at the top of the page. In the next screen, click on the compose icon. When the message box appears Use the drop down next to “Course” to select the correct class When the “To:” line appear you may begin typing the teacher’s name and it will fill in a selection or you may click the directory icon at the end of the box. Compose your message You may attach files or record messages Click the blue “Send” button

16 + Canvas Calendar A calendar containing information from all your childs classes can be accessed from the top blue navigation bar. Assignment information from each class can be turned on and off through the class listing on the right side of the calendar. By clicking “Calendar Feed” you can link the Canvas calendar to your own digital calendar giving you up to date notifications about your child’s classes.
