3 Role Play Your goal (as a room) is to ensure a student has successful completed the problems. Work at your table with the problems on the next slide Make sure the entire table has a complete understanding! What questions might you ask to see if a student has a similar complete understanding?

4 Math Problems Penny had some marbles. She gave 1/4 to Jose and 1/3 of those remaining to Mari. She had 24 marbles left. How many did she start with? Tom had twice as many marbles as Mari. Together Mari and Jose had 20 marbles. Tom had 5 less marbles than Jose. How many marbles did they have all together. Solve the systems of equations: 2x+3y=4 and 4x+5y=6 5x+6y=7 7x+8y=9 What do you notice and why?

6 Questions to Ponder… Take a couple of minutes to reflect, by yourself, on the questions that were used that probe for student understanding. What evidence do you have of student understanding or misunderstanding that came from the questions that were asked? What is the difference between the questions that DO probe and those that DON’T? What did you notice about the features of the questions that were good questions? Were there any questions that were missed that may have been able to probe for student understanding? Or maybe some generalizations you’ve observed?
